I decorate my ceramics with a greco-roman ornamentation method called sgraffito.

This involves carving into the clay when it is leather hard, working with positive and negative space to bring forward a textured motif. I use amaco and seattle pottery supply underglaze for my exterior colors, and our studio’s glazes for the insides.

All of my glazes are food safe, and the exteriors are either glossy or matte. The clay I work with is a white-bodied reclaim that varies in color and is often speckled. My studio fires to Cone 6 in an electric kiln.
